We have Non-Medical Treatment Options for the Top Four Causes of Heel Pain.
Top Four Causes of Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis
By far the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is a strong ligament running from the heel bone to the foot’s tip. When the fascia is stretched too far, its fibers become inflamed, resulting in pain.
Achilles tendinitis
The Achilles tendon is the band of tissue that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone, used when you walk, run, jump, or push up on your toes. Achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury.
Heel bursitis
Inflammatory condition of the bursa, a fibrous sac filled with fluid at the back of the heel that cushions the bone, ligaments, and muscles.
Heel spurs
Calcium deposits cause a bony protrusion on the underside of the heel bone. They’re often caused by muscle and ligament strains, stretching of the plantar fascia, and repeated tearing of the heel bone membrane.
Heel pain often goes away on its own with home care and remedies. When these fail, it's time to seek the help of your doctor and physical therapist.
For heel pain that isn't severe, try the following:
1) Rest: If possible, avoid activities that put stress on the heels, such as running, standing for long periods or walking on hard surfaces.
2) Ice: Place an ice pack on your heel for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day.
3) Wearing proper shoes: Ensure your shoes fit properly and provide plenty of support. We offer a full range of orthopedic footwear.
4) Foot Supports: Heel cups or cushions, such as the Gel Low-Profile Heel Cushion (GS 5150), often provide relief.
