Poor Foot Alignment, Abnormal Foot Alignment and Foot Pain
Abnormal foot alignment is one of the main causes of foot pain.
Without the support and proper foot alignment of your bone architecture, the body will rely on the soft tissues and tendons to hold you up. Overtime breakdown occurs in an effort to compensate for the ongoing stresses, and the bones of the feet and legs can actually change their shapes and positions.
When the foot is not stable, bones move in abnormal directions with abnormal forces magnified into the knee, hip and back. The result can be muscle fatigue, internal inflammation of tissues, and/or knee, hip and back pain.
To halt or reverse the changes occurring in the body, feet should be made to function as closely as possible to what is known as a neutral position. An orthotic may helpful to help to realign the foot.
What is the best way to treat poor foot alignment and foot pain?
Start with Non-Surgical Treatments:
1. Strengthening and stretching muscle imbalances, altering training routines or shoe gear are often prescribed to improve the way a person moves during athletic or daily activities.
2. Wearing shoes that fit, provide the proper support, are seamless and that have adequate toe room. Orthopedic shoes may be required.
3. An orthotic device worn inside the shoes can maintain the proper foot and leg relationships for improved function. Off-the-shelf or custom-made orthotic device may be helpful.
