What are Orthopedic Shoes?

They are specifically designed shoes to support or accommodate the mechanics and structure of the foot, ankle and leg and they have a number of medically beneficial features and functions that separate them from everyday footwear. They can be custom-made or non-custom (off-the-shelf). Also known at Therapeutic Footwear. They are a Class I Medical Device, regulated by Health Canada.

These products are ONLY sold through Professional and Specialty Retailers.

Not all footwear is constructed alike!  Orthopedic footwear is designed to address a number of foot conditions: fallen arches, high arches, diabetes, skin breakdown, foot ulcers, numbness, bunions, deformed feet, neuropathy (and so much more).

Regular footwear simply does NOT address any of these!

Here are KEY FEATURES to look for in Orthopedic Footwear:

Seamless Interior: made from soft materials. Stitching does not protrude or cause irritation.

Stretchable & Non-Binding Uppers: conforms to the foot without undue pressure. Regular shoes often cause pressure and irritations that can eventually lead to bunions or hammertoes, and heel blisters.

Extra-Depth & Wide Opening: for a pressure-free environment and that can accommodate orthotic inserts (off-the-shelf or custom).  Wide opening makes it safer to put-on and take-off the shoe.

Deep Toe Box: allows for comfortable toe movement and avoids pressure in this area.

Firm & Supportive Heel: to support the rear of the foot, avoiding foot-role and imbalance.

Well Cushioned and Strong Out-Sole & Mid-Sole: with defined flex points and impact absorption properties for added comfort, stability and to avoid trips and falls.

Removable Insoles and spacers: to accommodate orthotics, diabetics inserts, and custom orthotics.
