Tip #1 - Dress appropriately.
Winter weather is not an excuse for not exercising. Layers and warm clothing for winter activities will keep you comfortable
Tip #2 - Mix up your playlist
Create a new playlist to get you motivated or search your music app for workout playlists based on your preferred genres.
Tip #3 - Clean your Home
You don't have to go outside to exercise. Every move counts! Do active moments like bending, squatting, standing, running up and down the stairs all burn calories! Set aside some time and strive for a deep cleaning session to burn even more calories.
Tip #4 - Build in physical activity into family visits and outings
Encourage everyone to go outside when visiting family, friends and neighbors. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for the activity.
When exercising, our feet can only be as comfortable as our footwear permits, but it’s not just feet that suffer from poor shoes. Back, hip, knee and ankle pain are greatly affected by the kind of shoes we wear.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for footwear that will keep clients comfortable and pain-free while staying active:
* Find the right fit
It's important to choose shoes that provide a firm grip for your heel. When the back of the shoe is too wide or too soft, your foot will slip, causing instability and soreness.
Avoid shoes that change the shape of your feet, meaning...if they hurt, don't wear them! Shoes with pointed, narrow or shallow shape will create pressure and eventual damage to your feet. Your toes should have plenty of room to move, and the shoes should be wide enough to accommodate any type of foot deformity.
* Support is crucial
Arch support is an essential element. Choose shoes with great arch support or that can be worn with orthotic supports. A lack of arc support will cause feet to flatten, and also affect the alignment of the knees, hips and back.
Shoes with laces are an ideal option as they provide a customizable fit. But shoes with multiple velcro straps offer similar support while making them easy to slide on and off. Look for shoes with a padded tongue and cushioning/shock absorption at the ball of the foot and toes.
